Many hip hop heads have had their ears on the
ground listening for word on a movement that represents the core of underground
hip hop in all its forms in South Africa, and the streets responded with silent
whispers. In response to the hunger of the masses for the resurrection of the
underground hip hop scene in all its elements, Back 2 Basix and Free Unlimited
Creatures of Knowledge Entertainment (F.U.C.K Entertainment) have put their
heads together and created a channel in form of an event called The Basement
Raps Core, which is a portal for the underground hip hop movement to rise and
claim its rightful place back on the streets
The Basement Raps Core is an
event which is a channel that saw. a gap in the market to highlight the
alternative underground hip hop scene on the streets of South Africa which has
been shunned by the mainstream media. This event aims to house a melting pot of
all the elements of underground hip hop which branch out from the rap music on
the DJ sets to artists MC’ing on stage, graffiti, freestyle battle rap, B
Boying, hip hop gear stalls, and lovers of this alternative lifestyle sharing
knowledge and punch lines and having a good time. Bringing this movement back
to the streets on such a large scale, The Basement Raps Core wants to create
financial benefits for the artists whose crafted arts contributes towards
growing the movement I n the country and beyond the borders, by creating a
networking link between the artists who perform at The Basement Raps Core and
independent media forums, giving more exposure to the artists, attracting
larger numbers of crowds and paying artists at the events so that they too can
have commercial benefits in the underground world.
Back 2 Basix who have
partnered with F.U.C.K Entertainment are hosting their launch event of this
movement on April 6 2013 at 15:00. The damage is R10 before 17:00 and R20 after
at a place that has a true underground dungeon feel called Breakaway Nite
Club(www.breakawayniteclub.wozaonline.co.za) Cnr 39 Koch Street and Claim
Street, Johannesburg, opposite Gateway Lodge/ Mariston student Lodge near
Joburg Art Gallery. The venues other greatest asset is that it is convenient to
transport. It is just a block away from Noord Taxi Rank, there is a Rea Vaya
bus portal just near the club, and it is also close to park station and also
just a walk away from Bree Taxi Rank.
The performane line up for
the event includes artists: The Hymphatic Thabz, Witchcraft, Dynamic
Shapeshifters, Omega Zeph, Articulate Art ists, Robo Tech, Inco The Lock Myth,
Anti Bullshit, Revivolutio n, Topaz, Smoke 45 Temple, Dark Chambers, Detailed
Kadance, Mind Apacolypse, Bulmik The Illusionist. On the decks is: DJ Black
Knight, DJ Sistamatic (True Art), DJ Hood and DJ Zakes. The freestyle battles
will be Time Zone vs. Quaint, and Chro vs. Abominable. There will be an open
mic session from 15:00 and the selected artist’s
will warm up the mic before the event really gets heated up.
